Sehome shuts out Ferndale

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 18, 2014

Sehome's Max Diehl and Devin Trueb combined for a shutout in the Mariners' 2-0 win over Ferndale on Tuesday, March 18, at Civic Stadium. Charles Lahud and Gabriel Weight scored for Sehome.

"Their goalkeeper tried to distribute the ball, but Gabe intercepted it and made a long-range chip shot from 25 yards out because he could see the keeper was out of the box," Sehome coach John Sylvester said in a phone interview. "It was a real heads-up play and put us in the driver's seat."

The Mariners dominated possession, rattling off 14 shots to the Golden Eagles' three. Sylvester noted that Ferndale made some good adjustments and played stronger in the second half.

Sehome hosts Squalicum at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Civic Stadium. Ferndale visits Bellingham at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Northwest Soccer Park.
