Sehome girls' tennis rolls past Bellingham



Sehome's tennis team defeated Bellingham 6-1 in a season-opening match for both teams Tuesday, March 18, at Bellingham.

The Mariners won all four singles matches, led by Andrea Clawson at the No. 1 position. She defeated Kira Vazorka 6-1, 6-3.

"Sehome has an outstanding team," Bellingham coach Steve Chronsiter said in a phone interview. "We put up a good fight, but they were clearly the better team."

The lone win from the Red Raiders came from their No. 1 doubles team of Catie Welch and Ellie Iwersen. They defeated Madison Harris and Taylor Harris 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.

"We were very happy with how our first doubles played," Chronister said. "It was a very exciting match.

Chronister spoke highly of Sehome's team, saying they were a clear league favorite.

Sehome faces Blaine on Thursday, March 20, at home. Bellingham meets Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, at home.
