Ferndale's softball team battled back after falling behind 2-0 and defeated Burlington-Edison 3-2 on Tuesday, March 18, at Ferndale.
The Golden Eagles battled through some fatigue and concentration issues because of a late game Monday in Everett, but were able to pull out the win in the seventh, Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview.
"We didn't get home until 11 p.m. last night," Hilton said. "So it was a late night for everyone. We started out a bit slow because of it and concentration waned a bit during the game. But we battled back and chipped away."
Tied in the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Eagles drew three walks, including two hit-by-pitches, to load the bases. Then Sydney Shawler drove in the winning run with a base hit.
Lauren Maley struck out seven on the mound in six innings of play to get her second win of the season.
"I saw the pitchers get in focus," Hilton said of Maley and Scarlett Nyenhuis, who pitched the first inning. "They battled through whatever issues they were having at the moment."
Ferndale (2-0) faces Lynden on Thursday, March 20, on the road.
