Blaine's baseball team used a productive eighth inning to overcome Concrete 9-5 on Monday, March 17, at Concrete.
The Borderites started the eighth with a walk, then a passed ball advanced the runner to second. A misplayed bunt then scored the runner from second base. Jonathan Starcer then had his only hit in the game - a single - and then another walk loaded the bases. That's when Miles Peltier hit a line drive straight at the second baseman, who missed it, resulting in all three runners scoring.
Peltier also started the game on the mound and was part of a trio, which also included Rudy Nolasco and Cody Gabbato, that struck out 13 batters.
"We did an OK job on the mound," Blaine coach Sean Linville said in a phone interview. "We walked five guys and four of them scored, so we need to clean that up. But overall, the pitchers did a good job."
Blaine's Anthony Ball led the team at the plate, going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.
"He's only a freshman and he's going to be a good hitter," Linville said. "He had some good at bats. You got to have a plan at the plate, and he did what we needed him to do. I was real pleased with his bat today."
Blaine (1-1) gets a week off before facing Ferndale on Monday, March 24, on the road.
