Late comeback lifts Lyncs over Mount Baker

Lynden Christian's baseball team put together a seventh-inning comeback to top Mount Baker 5-4 on Monday, March 17, at Lynden Christian. Jamie Heystek was two for four with a run scored and a run batted in for the Lyncs.

Austin Vander haak scored the winning run on an error by the catcher during an LC bunt attempt.

"I felt bad for Cody (Larson); he threw a good game for Baker, but his teammates just kind of gave it up at the end there," Lynden Christian coach Desi Luna said in a phone interview. "He was solid, he threw the whole game and had good command."

Tyson Cline made a diving play in the outfield to keep the Mountaineers lead at just four, allowing the Lyncs to stage a final-inning comeback, Luna said. LC pitchers Jordan Jansen and Austin Vander Haak also received praise for their solid pitching.

Andrew Zender was a perfect 4 for 4 with a double and a run for Mount Baker.

Lynden Christian plays Squalicum at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Joe Martin Stadium. Mount Baker takes on Nooksack Valley at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at home.
