Blaine's boys' soccer team kicked off its season with a 3-0 win over Meridian on Monday, March 17, at Pipeline Fields.

"It was a great game," Blaine coach Giovanni Quesada said in a phone interview. "There was a lot of intensity from the team."

Nick Butschli led the Borderites with two goals while Kyle Sentkowski scored the third and assisted on another.

"We kept possession, had good teamwork, had good transition from defense to forwards," Quesada said. "Kids showed a lot of aggressive play. They played hard for the ball. They played to win. I saw a lot of passion in the kids today."

Chemisty among the Borderites was the most impressive thing to Quesada, especially in the first game of the season.

"There was a lot of communication," Quesada said. "I was surprised for it being the first game of the season, and having a lot of communication."

Blaine faces Nooksack Valley on Wednesday, March 19, at Nooksack. Meridian takes on Anacortes on Thursday, March 20, at home.
