Meridian's softball team started the season off with a 10-0 loss to Lakewood on Monday, March 17, at Lakewood.

The Trojans struggled with control on the mound, allowing 11 walks. Emma Weg was credited with the loss.

"Emma pitched well," Meridian coach Jordan Chambers said in a phone interview. "She had some control problems, but I'm pleased with her performance for the first time out."

Weg also went 1 for 2 on the day. Meridian's Kendra Holmes was the Trojans bright spot in a tough opening day. She went 1 for 2 with a double, a stolen base and a walk.

"We need to work on focus and just calming down," Chambers said. "We got over our heads, because we were in a game situation. We just need to slow down and concentrate."

The Trojans get back to the diamond against Squalicum on Tuesday, March 18, at Squalicum High School.
