LC softball rolls in home opener

Lynden Christian's softball team limited its walks as it defeated Squalicum 17-2 on Monday, March 17, at Lynden Christian. Casey Luna and Allison Smit only allowed two hits and a walk in the four-inning game for the Lyncs.

"Pitching was a huge bright spot today, we made them put the ball in play," Lynden Christian coach Mitch Moorlag said in a phone interview.

Samantha Sandoz took the loss for the Storm, which gave up four hits, 16 walks and committed four errors.

"Their pitching is getting better; they had two pitchers throw today, but they struggled to find the strike zone," Moorlag said.

Kristin Zoerink was 2 for 2 with four RBI and a double for the Lyncs. Lexi Holleman went 1 for 3 with two RBI.

Squalicum's Erika Farmer was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Ruth Runge was also 1 for 1.

"Their two runs were the result of errors due to first-game jitters," Moorlag said. "We're positive they won't happen again."

Lynden Christian takes on Mount Baker at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Mount Baker. Squalicum plays Meridian at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at home.
