Sehome's baseball team kicked off its season with a pair of losses on Saturday, March 15, on the east side of the state.

"It's all sunshine over here and the ground is hard as rock," Sehome coach Gary Hatch said in a phone interview. "It's a different game back home."

The Mariners lost 10-8 to Yakima East Valley in the first game, despite holding a 6-3 lead after the top of the third inning. Davis Hampton had an RBI double in the game.

Hampton added a double and an RBI in Sehome's 2-1 loss to Selah later in the day.

"He had a couple nice hits today," Hatch said.

The Mariners are confident in their team even though they lost the first two games.

"We have the potential to be a good club," Hatch said. "It was just typical first-game jitters. Guys were trying to do too much. It was good to get some games under our belt."

Sehome gets back to action on Tuesday, March 18, at home against Ferndale.
