Mental miscues plague Bellingham in loss

FRIDAY HARBOR 12, BELLINGHAM 2 (5 INNINGS)

Bellingham's softball team stumbled out of the gate against Friday Harbor and took a 12-2 loss on Saturday, March 15, at Friday Harbor. Julia Latimer was 1 for 1 with three stolen bases and a run scored.

"There were some mental mistakes that killed us," Bellingham coach Rick Ellis said in a phone interview. "We had eight (walks), so some control issues. It's early in the year and we can fix some of that. Overall, we put the ball in play and didn't strike out, but didn't find holes."

Latimer scored after stealing her way around the diamond and touching home on a passed ball by the Friday Harbor pitcher.

Amaya Johnson was 1 for 2 for the Red Raiders. The second game of the double-header was rained out and may be played at a later date.

Bellingham takes on Meridian at 4 p.m. Friday, March 21, at home.
