SQUALICUM 15, LA CONNER 4 (5 INNINGS)

Squalicum's baseball team opened its season with a 15-4 win over La Conner on Saturday, March 15, at La Conner. The Storm's Ben Johnson was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and three runs batted in.

David Stealey pitched four innings and recorded the win for Squalicum. Harper Moore also pitched an inning for the Storm.

"Our guys were good, not as sharp as usual with the classic first-game wildness for a lot of the pitching," Squalicum coach John Inge said in a phone interview. "We just limited that more than they did. We played good defense, ran the bases really well and had some clutch hits."

Most of the Storm's seven hits came with runners in scoring position, Inge said. Kyle Little went 1 for 1 with two runs and an RBI.

Johnson and Little each had one of Squalicum's eight stolen bases. Carter Nickelson also scored four runs for the Storm.

Squalicum hosts Lynden Christian at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Joe Martin Field in a non-league game.
