Mount Baker boys' soccer capsule

Coach: Jason Jorgensen

Last year: The Mountaineers finished seventh in the Northwest Conference with a 5-6-1 record, 10-11-1 overall. ... Mount Baker earned a spot in tri-districts after going 1-2 in districts, but its season came to an end after a loss to Cedar Park Christian.

Players to watch: Alex Tyska (Sr., F); Taylor Bruntil (Jr., M); Bryce Logan (So., GK)

Outlook: Transition will largely define this year for the Mount Baker boys' soccer team after losing 12 seniors off of last year's varsity roster. "It's almost called a rebuilding year to some degree," Mountaineers coach Jason Jorgensen said in a phone interview. "A lot of seniors starting except for two or three. ... Otherwise, basically getting everybody on the same page. Quite a few young guys." Goalkeeper Bryce Logan isn't necessarily an exception to that rule given he's only a sophomore, but he did play a significant amount of time last year in net for Mount Baker, and he returns as potentially one of the better keepers in the Northwest Conference this year. "Our guys coming out have the right attitude and are working hard," Jorgensen said. Senior forward Alex Tyska returns as Mount Baker's most lethal offensive threat after leading the team with nine goals last year. Junior midfielder Taylor Bruntil will also look to factor into Jorgensen's equation on offense. "Our strength comes from the midfield," Jorgensen said.
