Coach: Joe Spencer
Last year: The Trojans' 3-4-5 record in the Northwest Conference earned them a ninth-place finish. ... Meridian was 7-8-5 overall. ... The Trojans went 2-1 in district play, earning a spot in tri-districts where Seattle Academy ended their season.
Players to watch: Oswaldo Zamora (Sr., M); Jordan Birnel (Jr., M); Alan Eyoub (So., F).
Outlook: Meridian's team is young and inexperienced, coach Joe Spencer said, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a rebuilding year. "We have some good core foundation guys," Spencer said in a phone interview. "Some people are starting to stick out." Of those players, junior midfielder Jordan Birnel is one that has already caught Spencer's eye with his improved play. Sophomore forward Alan Eyoub, as well, who started most every game as a freshman, is one Spencer is going to rely a lot on at the front of their attack. "As a freshman, he was very talented," Spencer said. Of the units, though, Spencer believes his midfield is the strongest with senior Oswaldo Zamora leading the group with his experience and leadership. "If you are strong up the middle of the field, you have a decent chance of being successful."
