Lynden Christian boys' soccer capsule

Coach: Brent De Ruyter

Last year: The Lyncs finished sixth in the Northwest Conference with a 5-4-3 league record, and a 15-7-3 overall record. ... Lynden Christian advanced to the Class 1A State Championships where it placed third.

Players to watch: Cody Fransen (Jr., M); Liam Kroontje (Jr., D/F); Trevor Kamena (Sr., M).

Outlook: There's a fair amount of unknowns for coach Brent De Ruyter after losing nine seniors - seven of which were starters - of last year's team, but given what he's seen so far, he's not too worried about the group coming together. "They're working really hard, and (we) have a lot of guys that have to fill key roles," De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "We really competed a lot - guys competing against each other pretty hard." Junior Cody Fransen returns as the Lyncs' leading scorer after putting together a 13-goal, five-assist season last year. He and senior Trevor Kamena will make up much of Lynden Christian's offense. "We have a bunch of other guys that are well-rounded guys. Hopefully we can be creative with our lineup and keep teams guessing," De Ruyter said.
