Nooksack Valley baseball falls to Overlake 4-0 in season opener

The Nooksack Valley baseball club received strong outings from Dalton Biehle and Noah Rawls, but the Pioneers struggled at the plate, falling 4-0 to Overlake during a nonconference baseball game Friday, March 14, in Everson.

Biehle, who took the loss, went four innings and Rawls pitched the final three, as the duo combined gave up six hits. Nooksack Valley's Eben Rossmiller, who went 1 for 2 with a walk, recorded the Pioneers' only hit.

"It was a well-played game, not too many mistakes considering it was the first game of the year," Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. "Dalton pitched really well. ... We just didn't generate anyone on base."

Overlake opened the scoring in the top of the third with a two-run homer before adding two more runs in the fifth.

The Pioneers (0-1) play Bellingham next at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, in Everson.
