MOUNT BAKER

Mountaineers

Coach: Ron Lepper

Last year: The Mountaineers finished 14-13 overall last season, and 5-7 in the Northwest Conference. ... Advanced to the 1A state championships after going 2-1 in districts and 1-1 in tri-districts. ... Lost to Woodland to open state, but rebounded to beat River View 14-0 before losing to Cascade 10-3.

Players to watch: Emma Lallas (Sr., OF); Aleks Toivola (Jr., P); Emily Brandland (So., IF).

Outlook: With the loss of two key starters to injury before the 2014 season began, coach Ron Lepper admitted to not knowing exactly what this season will hold for the Mountaineers. "It's going to take a while to figure out some pieces," Lepper said in a phone interview. "We're going to move some girls around. Fortunately for us we have some time to do that." Junior starting pitcher Aleks Toivola returns to lead the staff, and while she's not going to dominate teams game in and game out, Lepper said she's always going to give Mount Baker a shot. "She's one of those girls who knows what she needs to do," Lepper said. Senior Emma Lallas and sophomore Emily Brandland should provide the Mountaineers some substance on offense.
