Red Raiders

Coach: Rick Ellis

Last year: The Red Raiders finished at the bottom of the Northwest Conference last year, going 0-12 in league and 2-17 overall. ... Despite the struggle that was last season, the Red Raiders finished the year by beating both Concrete and Darrington in their final two games.

Players to watch: Julia Latimer (Jr., IF/OF); Jasmine Midgley (Jr., C); Paige Jacobsen (So., OF/IF).

Outlook: The Red Raiders struggled last year finding a game in which offense, defense and pitching all came together. That's a hope coach Rick Ellis sees coming to fruition this year with a more seasoned, experienced club. "I think we're improved from where we've been the last couple years," Ellis said in a phone interview. Specifically, Ellis believes junior Julia Latimer will continue to prove she's one of the better players in the Northwest Conference. "A little more responsibility and she's talented," Ellis said. "A kid like that can help some of the younger kids." Bellingham is going to have a strong crop of freshmen joining the program that will play significant minutes in the starting lineup, Ellis said, taking the trial-by-fire approach in the early part of the year. Lindsey Richard and Eliza Rossman are two freshmen Ellis is expecting to make an immediate impact.
