LYNDEN CHRISTIAN

Lyncs

Coach: Mitch Moorlag

Last year: The Lyncs went 10-17 overall, and 2-10 in Northwest Conference play last year. ... Lynden Christian advanced to the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament, going 2-2 to earn a spot at tri-districts. ... Was eliminated by Seattle Christian in tri-districts after defeating Chimacum and University Prep.

Players to watch: Lexi Vander Griend (Sr., 2B); Livi Vander Griend (Sr., SS); Kasey Luna (Sr., P)

Outlook: Lynden Christian coach Mitch Moorlag isn't short on talent and experience heading into the 2014 high school softball season. "We actually have seven returning senior starters this year," Moorlag said in a phone interview. "We've got some kids that know the program - know the expectations and standards." Leading that group will be third baseman Shelby Brown and the twins, Livi and Lexi Vander Griend. Brown is making the transition from centerfield to the infield, but her bat continues to be a strong presence in the Lyncs' order. "She's hitting the ball really well," Moorlag said. Aside from No. 1 starter Kasey Luna, senior Karley De Jager, an all-Whatcom County honorable mention player last year, and junior Allison Smit will also see a fair amount of time in the circle.
