LYNDEN

Lions

Coach: Steve Petersen

Last year: The Lions advanced to the Class 2A State Tournament, winning their opening two games before losing to Selah and Sedro-Woolley. ... Ended 21-6 overall, and 11-1 in Northwest Conference play. ... Won the NWC title outright last year.

Players to watch: Trisha Snyder (Sr., 2B); Mandy Warner (Jr., C); Tanna Benson (Jr., P/INF)

Outlook: The Lions are coming off a Northwest Conference regular-season title, and this year's team is much the same as last year's. Despite the loss of Brooke Bonsen in the circle, Lynden coach Steve Petersen likes what he's seen from junior Tanna Benson. "She looks to be a little stronger," Petersen said in a phone interview. He said the same of fellow pitcher Hannah Rothwell. The main plus for the pitching staff, though, is having junior catcher Mandy Warner behind the plate. Warner, an All-Whatcom county first-team selection last year, hit .414 out of the leadoff spot while stealing a team-high 18 bases. Senior Trisha Snyder is coming off a strong senior campaign where she hit .404 and scored 27 runs.
