DEAN J. KOEPFLER/STAFF FILE, 2011

The snowplay area at Paradise will remain open until March 30.

Mount Rainier National Park managers will then close the sledding area so they can reassign staffers to other duties as the park begins the transition from winter operations.

For the safety of all, visitors must use soft sliding devices such as flexible sleds, inner tubes and saucers. No hard toboggans or runner sleds are allowed.

Remember that the uphill gate on the road from Longmire to Paradise closes at 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The downhill gate and the road closes at 7 p.m.

On weekdays, the uphill gate closes at 4 p.m. and the downhill gate and road close at 5 p.m.

Visitors are reminded that all vehicles are required to carry tire chains when traveling in the park during the winter season, which runs through May 1.
