Sehome Mariners prep baseball preview capsule

Coach: Gary Hatch

Last year: Finished tied for second in the Northwest Conference with a 9-3 record. ... Ended season after going 2-2 in the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament and finished 17-7 overall.

Players to watch: Josh Zavisubin (sr., P/OF); Davis Hampton (sr., 1B/P); Jake Albert (jr., P/SS/3B); Drew Lomsdalen (sr., P/INF/OF); Leif Anderson (jr., OF/P/1B)

Outlook: Coach Gary Hatch admitted his club will be a work in progress early in the season as it fills voids left by its 14 graduated seniors. Sehome has a strong one-two punch on the mound with Josh Zavisubin and Drew Lomsdalen and has several others who are capable of chewing up innings. "We've learned the front end of the season doesn't really mean a whole lot," Hatch said. "It's what happens those last 12-13 league games. We are going into the first six games throwing bodies into the fire to see what we got." Senior Davis Hampton should join Zavisubin as the Mariners' top run producers, and Sehome also returns junior Jake Albert, who saw extensive varsity at-bats last spring. Hatch is working on getting his catching situation shored up, and Owen Wright, Tyler Hruby and Aaron Nichols each are potential candidates.
