Squalicum Storm prep baseball preview capsule

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 13, 2014

SQUALICUM STORM

Coach: John Inge

Last year: Finished tied for ninth in the Northwest Conference with a 4-8 record. ... Did not qualify for postseason and ended season 5-15 overall.

Players to watch: Landon Tripp (sr., OF); Ben Johnson (sr., UTL); David Stealey (Jr., P/OF); Christian Jorgenson (jr., P); Kyle Little (jr., 2B/SS)

Outlook: Storm coach John Inge has coached teams with strong hitting, but he knows a strong pitching staff always leaves a window open to win ball games. And Inge feels he has a high-caliber group of pitchers to work with. "We're pretty talented and have a chance to be good if we stay together and score some runs," Inge said. "I know we'll pitch the ball better than most, and that gives you a chance." Squalicum's pitching staff starts with junior trio David Stealey, Christian Jorgenson and Harper Moore. Sophomores Connor Sage and Ben Wolters also are expected to see mound time. Seniors Landon Tripp and Ben Johnson will be fixtures in the middle of the lineup and will be responsible for shouldering offensive production while catcher Josh Holcomb should also chip in at the plate. "We are still young but have more experience now," Inge said. "Our pitching and defense will carry us."
