Mount Baker Mountaineers prep baseball preview capsule

Coach: Quinn LeSage

Last year: Finished tied for ninth in the Northwest Conference with a 4-8 record. ... Ended season after going 0-1 in the Class 1A State Tournament and finished 10-15 overall.

Players to watch: Andrew Zender (sr., INF/P); Cody Larson (sr., INF/P); Seth Bass (sr., OF): Jacob Marr (sr., UTL/P)

Outlook: The Mountaineers enter this spring looking to build off last year's state tournament appearance, and they return a number of players who help the club put together its 10-win season. Mount Baker hadn't played a postseason game of any kind for six seasons before Baker ran the table at districts last season and qualified for the Class 1A State Tournament. The confidence gained should benefit the Mountaineers. Key pieces this spring include senior pitcher Andrew Zender, who returns to the mound and gives the Mountaineers a reliable arm. Senior Jacob Marr also is expected to eat up innings. Not only has Zender proved he can get it done on the mound, he gives Mount Baker a strong bat coach Quinn LeSage can put in the heart of the Mountaineers' lineup. Pitcher and infielder Cody Larson is also a senior LeSage will undoubtedly look for big things out of this spring. Mount Baker will have to replace graduated players Kaleb Brownfield and Titus Balvanz. Both were essential for Mount Baker and played well during the club's postseason run.
