Lynden Lions prep baseball preview capsule

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 13, 2014

LYNDEN LIONS

Coach: Cory White

Last year: Won a Northwest Conference title with an 11-1 record. ... Ended season after going 1-1 at the Class 2A State Tournament and finished 22-3 overall.

Players to watch: Kody Ames (sr., 1B/P); Lucas Petersen (jr., 2B/P); Cameron Wainwright (sr., OF/P); Jordan Wittenberg (so., SS)

Outlook: How does Lynden replace its plethora of graduated talented seniors? Lions coach Cory White is confident he has a club filled with hungry players who've been craving a chance to prove themselves. "These guys have been No. 2s for the last two to three seasons, and they've had the chance to watch (last year's seniors) do it the right way with consistency," White said. Senior Kody Ames and junior Lucas Petersen are two players White expects to take ownership of Lynden's pitching duties. He said both looked strong during summer ball and have had a really good spring. Petersen is slated to start at second base when he's not pitching, and sophomore Jordan Wittenberg is expected to take over at shortstop. "Top to bottom, everyone has to produce," White said. "The main thing is to make sure you make effective outs."
