Blaine Borderites prep baseball preview capsule

Coach: Sean Linville

Last year: Finished 13th in the Northwest Conference with a 0-12 record. ... Ended season after going 0-2 in the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament and finished season 6-16 overall.

Players to watch: Chris Doll (sr., C); Cody Gobbato (jr., SS/P); Myles Peltier (sr., OF/P); Josh Fakkema (so., 1B/P)

Outlook: The Borderites are young - 18 of Blaine's 23 players are either freshmen or sophomores - but coach Sean Linville sees an admirable trait in his club that he believes will help the group develop throughout the spring. "They show a real willingness to learn and that's fun to be around." Linville said. "When you're coachable, you can always improve, and they are willing to do that." Linville expects seniors Chris Doll and Myles Peltier to provide strong leadership and be key contributors. Doll, a catcher, is slated to hit in the middle of the order, and Peltier is expected to take over Blaine's No. 1 pitching role. Peltier pitched 10 to 12 innings last year, and Linville said "he has a good feel for the game." Others expected to make strong contributions are junior shortstop Cody Gobbato and sophomore first baseman/pitcher Josh Fakkema. "We're probably going to have to rely on small baseball," Linville said. "We're going to try to get guys on the move to get them over."
