Bellingham Red Raiders prep baseball preview capsule

Coach: David Farrell

Last year: Finished fifth in the Northwest Conference with an 8-4 record. ... Ended season after going 0-2 in the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament and finished 13-8 overall.

Players to watch: Oscar White (sr., OF); Ryan Fox (sr., INF/OF/P); Dante Check (Jr. C/P); Charlie Carmichael (jr., P/INF); Brad Johnson (jr., P/INF)

Outlook: The Red Raiders graduated several key pieces, but coach David Farrell is particularly impressed with how baseball savvy this year's Bellingham club is. "One thing we won't take for granted is we really have a knack for the game," Farrell said. "We're super excited about that." Bellingham lost ace Matt Richard, but Farrell feels strong about what he considers a deep pitching staff. Most likely the Red Raiders will be anchored by juniors Charlie Carmichael and Brad Johnson, but Dante Check, Bobby Cooke and Tyler Rasmussen should also log innings. Last year's hitting leader Oscar White is expected to be one of Bellingham's top run producers as well as Check and Ryan Fox. The Red Raiders are expecting Jashawn Dorsey to bat leadoff. "For us, we're really hammering on the small things in baseball," Farrell said. "If we can do those things, we could be a really successful team and scrap out some wins."
