Bicyclist taken to Harborview after Bellingham bike lane crash

BELLINGHAM - A bicyclist was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after getting hit by a truck in the bike lane Wednesday, March 12, according to the Bellingham Police Department.

The bicyclist was riding in the bike lane in the 3400 block on Northwest Avenue just before 5 p.m., when he was hit by a turning truck, Lt. Bob Vander Yacht said.

The driver was on scene when police arrived, and no drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash. The bicyclist was wearing a helmet. His injuries were concerning enough that he had to be taken to Harborview, Vander Yacht said.

Police were still investigating and trying to figure out exactly how the crash happened on Thursday. The bicyclist's name and status were not available Thursday.
