Catelli named USTFCCCA DII West Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year


Western Washington University shot putter Frank Catelli has been named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II West Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year and the Vikings' Pee Wee Halsell received Men's Coach of the Year honors in an announcement made Monday, March 10.

Catelli, a sophomore from Sequim, is the nation's No.9-ranked shot putter at 57-5 1/2 with a winning effort at the Washington Indoor Open. He improved his personal indoor best from a year ago by nearly 1-1/2 meters, and finished runner-up at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. Catelli will compete in the shot put at the NCAA II Indoor Championships this weekend.

Halsell received the regional coaches' award for the second straight year and third time overall.
