Unhappy with price hike for recycling

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 10, 2014

I was quite amazed and unhappy to find that Clean Green has raised the price to recycle yard waste to $10 per load this year. This is a 100 percent increase from last year. Same two guys, same hours, same equipment, same location that is owned by the city. What a great service we have here. Now it may be more attractive to dump those lawn clippings and yard debris in the drainage ditch or along the neighbor's fence. I know we can make the long trip out to the privately owned Slater Road facility and save some money, but how much will blow out of the pickup on the freeway? This is a service that should be provided at a cost attractive enough (free would be best) to encourage our residents to recycle and keep our neighborhoods clean and well maintained. Of all the tax dollars that are collected from us, from all the various entities that demand our support, this is an important one.
