5 new spring 5K races coming to region

Running Five new 5-kilometer running events, all of which plan to raise money for youth, are coming to the South Sound this spring.

Four of the races are April 5 and comprise the new Daffodil 5K Challenge. The races are staged along the Daffodil Parade route with races in Tacoma at 8:45 a.m., Puyallup at 11:15 a.m., Sumner at 1 p.m. and Orting at 3:30 p.m.

The races precede the parade and include the parade route.

Those who complete all four races are invited to march in the Orting parade. Registration is $35 for one race or $80 for all four. Proceeds go to the YMCA Teen Late Nite Program. Learn more at daffodil5kchallenge.com.

On May 10, Lakewood’s Studio Fitness will host the Healthy Start 5K on in Lakewood. The race starts at Studio Fitness, 11112 Gravelly Lake Drive SW. Entry is $40 before the April 20 registration deadline.

The run benefits Healthy Start, an after-school program with physical activity and healthy snacks. The program is hosted by Oakwood, Tyee Park and Tillicum elementary schools. Get details at personaltrainingnw.com/5k.html.
