Report: Burlington Coat Factory coming to Bellingham

BELLINGHAM - The former Meridian Cost Cutter building might have a new tenant before the end of the year.

The Bellingham Business Journal reported on its website that Burlington Coat Factory plans to begin remodeling the 73,000-square-foot building this spring and to be open by October. The article quotes Bill Cummings, a senior project manager of the company, as saying the proposal is currently in the bidding process.

Bari Kurzman, a spokeswoman for Burlington Coat Factory, said they can't confirm at this time that the company is coming to Bellingham. As of Friday afternoon, March 7, no new building permit applications were filed with the city at that Meridian address.

Burlington Coat Factory is known for its selection of discount apparel, including coats, as well as home products. It has more than 470 stores in 44 states. In Washington, the company has several stores, including in Everett and Edmonds.
