Whatcom County home sales up slightly in February

Despite snow last month, local real estate agents continued to plug along with a steady stream of home sales.

In February 151 homes and condominiums were sold in Whatcom County, up from 143 units compared to a year earlier, according to data from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service.

That makes 299 homes and condos sold in the first two months of 2014, a 7.6 percent increase compared to the same period a year earlier. The first two months of the year are typically the slowest in Whatcom County.

While sales were up in February, the median price of the units sold decreased. According to the report, the median price was $222,000, down 4.9 percent compared to a year earlier.

With the wintry weather in February, fewer homes were listed for sale. Last month 269 homes were newly listed, down from 355 in February 2013.

Across the 21 Washington counties the NWMLS serves, sales were sluggish. Last month 4,196 homes and condos sold, down less than 1 percent compared to February 2013. In Skagit County 103 homes and condos sold last month, up from 90 in February 2013.
