WWU's Colard named first-team GNAC all-star


Western Washington University guard Katie Colard was a first-team pick and center Sarah Hill earned second-team recognition on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Basketball All-Star Team announced Tuesday, March 4, by the conference office.

Receiving honorable mention was Viking point guard Jenni White.

WWU, 17-9 overall, placed second in the GNAC standings at 13-5 to earn a first-round bye at the conference tournament this week. The defending champion Vikings meet the winner of Wednesday's opening-round game between Alaska Anchorage and host Saint Martin's in a Friday semifinal at 5:15 p.m.

Colard ranks 13th nationally and tops the GNAC in 3-point makes per game at 2.8. She is scoring at a team-leading 13.9 clip on 40.4 percent (74 of 183) accuracy from beyond the arc.

Colard also leads the team in double-figure scoring games with 19 and in free-throw shooting at 83.8 percent (57 of 68). She is second in assists at 2.5.
