Rave: Students, parents, leaders at Lummi school praised

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMarch 2, 2014

Our school recently hosted the 1B Tri-District Basketball Tournament in Mount Vernon. We had the extreme pleasure of having the school and community of the Lummi Nation in attendance during several days of the tournament.

The students, adults and leaders of Lummi Nation need to be thanked publicly for their support, actions and assistance while participating in the tournament. Some great things were witnessed from these participants. On the court, head coach Jerome Toby demonstrated what is great about quality high school coaching -- discipline, leadership, mentoring, preparation, care for players, hard work, proper sportsmanship and more -- his players emulated these traits. Despite losing and not advancing to state, their disappointment did not detract from their accomplishments to advance to this level of competition.

The spectators assisted staff with cleaning up their cheering section, were pride-filled as they supported their team, polite, enjoyable and again left our tournament staff and school officials with a favorable and positive impression of Lummi Nation School.

Thank you to all of you that represented Lummi Nation at the recent tournament. Thanks, also, to school leaders like coaches Jerome Toby and Kevin Day, along with athletic director Jim Sandusky and others around the community, that are promoting values and life-long skills that will serve everyone well.
