Concerned about coal impacts

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 28, 2014

Our environment is under siege every day. Accumulated human activities have brought us into serious environmental jeopardy.

Thanks to our Washington State Department of Ecology, with the support of Gov. Inslee, the proposals for Washington to become a gateway for coal export will be studied and researched in depth. DOE listened to hundreds of thousands of comments and redoubled their efforts to review all aspects of coal transport from the mines to would-be Longview and Cherry Point coal loading docks.

Big coal talks of the jobs, both construction and long term as great benefits to Whatcom and Cowlitz counties. The important public question is, can we afford the harm to our environment that I believe comes with these jobs?
