In the new production of "TAO: Phoenix Rising" for North America, athletic bodies and contemporary costumes meet explosive taiko drumming and innovative choreography.

The performance is at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.

The stars of TAO live and train at a compound in the mountains of Japan, reaching a high level of virtuosity after years of intense study. They each bring nontraditional flair to the group by drawing on their diverse backgrounds: one as a hard rock musician, another as a gymnast and yet another as a composer.

Tickets, $20 to $45, are at 360-734-6080 and mountbakertheatre.com.
