WWU men ranked No. 7 in West Regional poll

The Western Washington men's basketball team was ranked No. 7 in the second NCAA Division II West Regional poll, released Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The Vikings beat Northwest Nazarene 84-72 at home Thursday, Feb. 20, and pulled out a 94-91 home victory over Central Washington on a Richard Woodworth halfcourt buzzer-beater Saturday, Feb. 22.

The poll will eventually determine which five teams join the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA champions in the regional tournament, which begins Friday, March 14. The league champions earn automatic berths.

One more poll will come out before the NCAA announces the regional field on Sunday, March 9, on ncaa.com. The women's show will be at 7 p.m. Pacific followed by the men's show at 7:30.

The GNAC will determine its champion and its automatic-berth winner with a tournament March 5-8. Saint Martin's University will host the tournament at Marcus Pavilion.

The Viking women fell from No. 9 to No. 10 after losing to Alaska Anchorage on Saturday.

The third and final NCAA West Region rankings will be released March 5, with the NCAA postseason selection show taking place on March 9. The top eight teams in the final poll will earn berths to the NCAA West Region playoffs.
