BELLINGHAM - Police arrested a suspected drug dealer with more than $21,000 in methamphetamine and heroin after a routine traffic stop last week.

Officers pulled over Steven Lee Dell, 45, about 1:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, on East Sunset Drive and arrested him on an unrelated warrant. He hadn't shown up to court hearings for driving offenses and drug crimes.

Later detectives got a warrant to search the car and found 2 ounces of heroin, valued at $5,400, in a hidden compartment, according to police.

Then officers searched Dell's motel room and found just under a 1/2-pound of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $16,480, according to police.

Dell has been convicted of possessing meth twice since 2005.
