Background check business vandalized on Meridian Street

BELLINGHAM — Vandals broke into a tenant-screening business, sprayed ink on the carpet and threw a fire extinguisher through a second-story window this week on Meridian Street.

Police don't know if the culprit or culprits had a vendetta against E-Renter USA Ltd., 4200 Meridian, or if some mischievous person just came across an unlocked door late Wednesday, Feb. 19, said Bellingham Police Lt. Bob Vander Yacht.

Officers documented printer ink splattered on the walls and in the carpet. Two fire extinguishers had been set off. One of the extinguishers had been tossed through a window.

Nothing was stolen from the business, but the vandalism caused about $1,600 in damage, Vander Yacht said.

E-Renter USA offers background and credit checks on potential renters.

The business had been secure at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The damage was discovered at 5 a.m. the next morning.

Tips can be directed to the Bellingham Police Department at 360-778-8800. For urgent tips after hours, call 911.
