BELLINGHAM - A man who offered sex to underage girls through text messages is serving 240 days in jail after pleading guilty to communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.

Robert F. Fout, 27, told police he had sent similar messages to at least 20 other girls, in addition to the four girls police found through Fout's computer and phone, according to charging documents filed in Whatcom County Superior Court.

Between November 2011 and December 2012, Fout sent Facebook messages to at least four girls. With one 13-year-old girl, Fout obtained her phone number from her Facebook page and began sending her lewd text messages, claiming he was 20 years old and wanted to smoke marijuana and have sex with her, according to charging documents.

A search of Fout's computer revealed he had also sent messages to another underage girl who repeatedly told him to stop contacting her.

Police found Fout after serving Verizon with a search warrant for the owner of the phone that sent text messages to the underage girls. Fout was sentenced on Feb. 3, according to sentencing documents.
