Whatcom County dairy farmer dies in tractor accident

ACME - A dairy farmer in the South Fork Valley died Tuesday, Feb. 18, when his tractor struck a barn.

Ed Strachila, 52, was driving a tractor on his farm in the 3100 block of Valley Highway Tuesday morning when it hit the barn, causing a beam to fall on him, Whatcom County Medical Examiner Gary Goldfogel said in an email.

The beam fell on his chest, killing him.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6210 Mount Baker Highway, at noon Monday.
