WWU down to its final four in search for new athletic director

February 20, 2014

Western Washington University’s nationwide search to find a replacement for Lynda Goodrich to lead its athletics department is now down to its final four, the school announced in a release.

The school utilized Alden & Associates, a renowned search firm, for its assistance as it looks to permanently fill the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

All four candidates will come to Bellingham over the next 2½ weeks for face-to-face interviews and get a chance to meet with WWU’s coaches and athletic community.

Steve Card, who previously served as the school’s Associate Athletic Director and men’s golf coach, has served as the interim AD since Goodrich retired after 26 years serving as Western’s athletic director.

Not surprisingly, Card is among the four finalists under consideration.

Joining him is Seattle University Associate Director of Athletics Shawn Farrell, University of Northern Iowa Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Jean Berger and State University of New York at Buffalo Senior Associate Athletic Director Donald Reed.

As part of the interview process, WWU will host open forums for faculty, staff, students and the greater Bellingham community to meet the candidates.

Farrell will be available from 4-5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at Viking Union room 464. Berger will be second up from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the same location, and Reed will be available from 4-5 p.m. on March third in the same room.

Card will go last from 4-5 p.m. on March 10 at a location still to be determined.
