Lummi Island chef is semi-finalist for James Beard award

LUMMI ISLAND - The chef at Willows Inn on Lummi Island is in the running for a James Beard Foundation Award, which recognizes the best chefs and restaurants throughout the country.

Blaine Wetzel is a semi-finalist for the Rising Star Chef of the Year award, along with 24 other chefs nationwide.

This is Wetzel's fourth straight time as a semi-finalist for the Rising Star award; he has been on the list since 2011.

Finalists for the restaurant and chef awards will be announced March 19, with the James Beard Foundation Awards Gala presented in early May.
