The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team will hold a volunteer training class Saturday.
COASST is a citizen science project that trains volunteers to look on area beaches for carcasses of marine birds. The work is done on a monthly basis to establish a baseline of bird mortality on the beaches.
Anyone can volunteer, and you do not need to be a bird expert, organizers said. Volunteers have to be willing to walk about a three-quarter-mile stretch of beach once a month.
The class will run from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Ocean Shores Convention Center, 120 W. Chance a la Mer NW, Ocean Shores.
