Lummi boys play way into Tri-District Tournament

Lummi's boys' basketball stayed alive in the Class 1B Tri-District Tournament by beating Quilcene 56-37 on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Tulalip Heritage High School.

The Blackhawks were without two starters, but still proved resilient in the play-in game.

"It was a big game," Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. "I'm proud of how the boys got through against an aggressive basketball team. It was a real grind-it-out game."

The Blackhawks were led by Trazil Lane's 19 points and 11 rebounds and Austin Brockie's 14 points. Brockie was starting in place of the injured Kavarez Lane.

The Blackhawks move on to face Neah Bay on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Port Angeles.

"We are just striving for playing unselfish, playing hard and giving our best 32 minutes. We're going to take it one game at a time," Toby said. "It starts with defense and taking care of the ball."
