Ferndale's girls' basketball team was down by three in the fourth quarter but after two shots that rimmed out, the Golden Eagles were forced to foul and Glacier Peak hit its free throws, as Ferndale lost 55-43 in the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Lynnwood High School.

"Credit Glacier, they're a really good basketball team," Ferndale coach Michael Ivy said in a phone interview. "We took it to the wire, but we couldn't close it off."

The Golden Eagles were led by Hannah Carlson's 17 points and Linsey Honeycutt's 10 points and 11 rebounds. Honeycutt ended up fouling out of the game.

"Those two had real solid games," Ivy said. "Brooke Benson also hit two 3s in the second to bring us back."

Ferndale at one point had a 29-22 lead in the fourth quarter. Much of the success Ferndale had was on the defensive end, as it forced 25 turnovers.

"Anytime the other team commits 25 turnovers, you're playing solid defense," Ivy said.

Ferndale now plays in a consolation loser-out game on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
