Blaine-area park and recreation district changes name

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 15, 2014

Northwest Park and Recreation District 2 has changed its name to reflect the communities it serves.

It is now the Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District.

Many residents were confused by the old name and were unfamiliar with the district, according to a district news release.

The district's board of commissioners asked the Whatcom County Council to approve the new name, which the council did Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The council had given the district the old name when the district was formed in 1979.

The district's logo will stay the same.
