Questions cable, internet franchises

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 15, 2014

I have been working over the past couple of months to try and get a simple request done. Bring cable TV and high-speed internet to my home, which happens to be a mere one-quarter mile from the existing service area. Comcast has taken their time in getting a survey done, and establishing a build-out price for what seems to me to be a simple request. After some checking, it appears that the Comcast franchise agreement that was originally entered in with Whatcom County over 15 years ago has expired. I encourage all my fellow Whatcom county residents to join me in "voting with our wallets," and demanding that the county take additional bids into consideration before entering another long-term agreement with a monopolistic company. Can anyone else say "municipal fiber to the home?"
