Blaine girls' basketball suffers lopsided loss to King's

The Blaine girls' basketball team faced an early deficit and could never recover, as the Borderites lost to King's 55-26 during the semifinal round of the Class 1A District Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 13, at King's High School in Shoreline.

Borderites post Taylor V'Dovec scored a game-high 14 points, and the trio of Mandy Hayes, Alexis McElwain and Breanna Chau were held to a combined six points.

"They forced us to run with them," Blaine coach Ryan Pike said. "They are a very good team. They are all 5-10, 5-11, are long and can run with the ball. We were down 19 at halftime, and they forced us out of what we do."

The loss sends Blaine to the district tournament's consolation round where it will face Coupeville in a loser-out game at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Blaine.

The Borderites didn't score double digits in any quarter, and Pike said King's hit six first-half 3s.

"We all got a little frustrated," Pike said. "We were never able to get the momentum back. Every time we hit a shot, they got a 3."
