Orcas roll with Impero out

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDFebruary 12, 2014

Whatcom Community College's men's basketball team rolled through Olympic College 77-45 on Wednesday, Feb. 12, defeating a trio of former Whatcom County high school basketball players.

The Orcas top scorer, Kyle Impero, was out for the game, but it didn't matter for WCC, who scored 44 points in the second half.

Alex Duncan stepped up for the Orcas with 18 points and Eric Fongue added 14 points and eight rebounds.

"It was awesome to see that we had a team effort without (Impero)," WCC coach David Dunham said in a phone interview. "Obviously we want him out there but it's nice to see other guys step up because you never know what could happen."

Former Meridian High School athletes turned Olympic College basketball players AJ Sedillo (four points) and Conner Bird (three points) turned in contributions. Former Blaine High School basketball player Case Speelman scored four points for Olympic.

The Orcas are now in first place in the NWAACC north region with a 9-2 conference record.
